The following article, “Unique group of survivors,” appeared in the Tampa Bay Times, May 12, 2013.  Its publication coincided with the 2013 AFEES reunion in the city.  The article features the experiences of John Nelson, a WWII airman, who was shot down over Yugoslavia in September 1944 and hidden until he could be evacuated by a C-47.  Click on the article to enlarge it.
